QUIZ

year for our resident quizmaster Davie Davidson. A big thank-you

Director Sam McDougall 1930 - 2001
Another true
and loyal member lost to the grand bowling club above. Sam passed
away in December after a long and brave fight with cancer. Sam was
an active member and Director of the club and was looking forward
to being president one day.
There was a wonderful turnout at Sam's funeral and fittingly the
family decided to have the farewell meal and drink at the bowling
club.
Our sincere condolences go to his wife Madge, children Scott,
Mandy and all the family.
We will all miss Sam at Cambuslang Bowling Club......... |

Saturday 16th
February 2002
Sam's
wife Madge requested that Sam's
ashes be scattered at the bowling club
and
a commemorative plaque be placed in the club grounds.
The
board of Directors agreed to this and the club opened at 12.30
that day with the ceremony at 1.30pm. Tributes
were delivered from our Secretary David Barnett,
Past
President Bob Clark and Sam's daughter Mandy. |

Our thoughts go to Joe's wife Isobel,
son Kenny, daughter Lynn and his grandchildren.

Member Joe Goodlet 1929 - 2001
It is with great sadness I write of the untimely death of
one of our members Joe Goodlet. Joe, 72, suffered a massive heart
attack outside his home whilst chasing young yobs who had been
tormenting Joe and his wife, Isobel by banging on their door and
windows for weeks on end. Army veteran and former boxer Joe had
undergone heart operations and had a pacemaker fitted. . He was a
stalwart member of our bowling club, ever present and very active
in bowling circles, which was borne out at his funeral on Tues
16th October by the many many bowlers in attendance. We will
all miss Joe at Cambuslang Bowling Club.......

Sunday
11th November, Remembrance Sunday, Joe's ashes were scattered at
the bowling club and a commemorative plaque placed alongside our
war memorial. Joe's family and a large turnout of members and
friends witnessed the ceremony. A tribute to Joe's memory was
delivered by our Secretary David Barnett.

15th Sep 2001 Ryder
Cup sponsored by
President Charlie Davie
New
tournament this year "Ryder Cup" format with Cambuslang
Directors and club guests making up two teams of twelve. Team
Captain President Charlie Davie v Team Captain Match Secretary Scott
Crichton.
A super day with everyone playing : singles, pairs, triples and
fours. Points and scores added resulted in a victory for Team
captain Scott. A great day sure to be repeated for many years to
come.

Championship
Gordon Dick v Harry Faulds. Great final, this was Harry's first
time in the final of the championship, Gordon being a past winner,
twice already, was always favourite. After two hours with the score 20
- 18 in favour of Gordon, Harry lying the shot and the last
bowl.......played a shot to move the jack by 1 or 2 feet which would
have gave him 3 shots and the championship...but the jack was sliced
and stopped at Gordon's bowl giving him the
championship...congratulations Gordon.
Presidents trophy. Tom McNee v John McInall. Tom got off to
great start and was soon 10 shots to 0 up. John fought back in a
thrilling game the score ending 21-17 to Tom.

27th Charity Day.....( Alex MacFarlane memorial )
Unbelievable day. A cheque for a
whopping £2,005 presented
to a Nursing Sister from the Rodger Park Nursing Home.
Twenty-four rinks plus friends ensured the club was very busy with our
three bar staff barely able to cope at times.
Jim Montgomery Jnr, wife Glenda and Harry Faulds worked tirelessly the
whole day and it really was a superb effort by everyone.On the 10th
anniversary of this tournament it was nice that a Cambuslang team won,
skipped by our Match Secrertary Scott Crichton, who was absolutely
delighted to have won. Kirkhill bowling club were very worthy

18th CLONTARF BC, DUBLIN
Eleven tourers
set off to Dublin ( Sam McDougall withdrew through ill health ) and
were met at the hotel by our hosts. A few drinks followed then onto
the bowling green, our hosts supplied a twelfth man giving us three
rinks. A superb evening bowling was followed by a sumptuous meal. Nice
pleasantries exchanged and our own Dave Barnett ( acting President )
gifted every member of Clontarf with a CBC tie and badge.

 A
harmony evening followed and Clontarf member John Murphy entertained
the company with his guitar and piano playing, a few of us
reciprocated and a brilliant evening was had. A big thanks to Clontarf
for their excellent hospitality and to our Secretary for organising a
great weekend.

23rd NEW CLUB COACHES !
Congratulations
to Junior Convenor Terry Connolly and member John McInall. who
both passed the SBA club coaching course, which consisted of a written
and practical test.
Both members will put there new skills to good use as they both coach
our juniors.
