Like all well managed clubs we need rules and guidance for the well being of all members and for the general good
of the club. I will endeavor to list some of our Bowling rules and etiquette.......not them all as there are
many..........

Bowls Etiquette
Bowls is a sport where true sportsmanship still prevails. This position should be guarded
jealously and by following a few simple principles you can help maintain the
sportsmanship and courtesy which has characterised the game of bowls for many years.
Bowling is a friendly game and all players should show courtesy and good sportsmanship.

Before the Game:
1. Check you know the correct dress for the occasion - and
wear it.
2. Make sure you know the starting time of the game and
arrive in sufficient time to change and be ready to start on the green at the appointed time
3. In a team game, arrive in time to welcome your
guests.
During the Game:
1. Enter and leave the green by the steps provided.
2. Do not drop your bowls on the green.
3. Shake hands with your opponents before and after the
game
4. Do not sit or stand on the steps or banking.
5. Do not drop litter in the ditches - use the receptacles
provided.
6. Stand still while your opponent is about to play.
7. Do not infringe the laws of rink possession.
8. Wait until the result of an end has been declared before
moving any of the bowls.
9. If you are responsible, for keeping the score, compare your
card with your opponents at regular intervals.
If score-boards are
in use, ensure it concurs with the scorecards.
10. Unless you have been delegated to decide the shots at the
completion of an end, do not interfere in any way with
this
process.
11. If an umpire has been called, stay well clear of the head
until a decision has been made
12. If you lose the game remember to congratulate your
opponent.
13. Never be heard to criticise the green or your
opponent.
14. Acknowledge a "fluke" and commend an opponent's
good bowl. |

Rules......for CBC competitions |
1.
Scottish Bowling Association (SBA) rules
govern all
competitions.
2. All Bowls must conform to SBA requirements.
Any challenge to bowls must be made BEFORE the first
end is commenced
|
3. Challenge book
will be operated as follows:-
a. In singles, the challenger is either player. In pairs,
the challenger is either skip.
The skip being mutually agreed
between the drawn pairs.
b. Should difficulties arise in arranging ties a challenger
may append 3 dates and times in the book when he is available.
These must not be in the same week and at least 48 hours notice
must be given of the first date. Challenges may NOT be issued for
Saturdays, Sundays or Mondays, although ties may be played at any
time on a Saturday or Sunday by mutual consent, subject to
availability of rinks. Ties may be played on Monday evenings only
with the prior approval of the Match Committee.
c. The person challenged must give the Challenger minimum
notice of 24 hours of any date accepted.
d. If the person challenged finds all three dates
unsuitable, he may offer three alternative dates in line with para
3b above.
e. The Challenger must consult the book regularly to check if
his opponent has accepted any date or offered alternatives.
f. If a challenge has been issued in accordance with these
rules and not accepted by the closing date for the round, then the
Challenger will be adjudged the winner of the tie.
g. If a tie is unplayed by the closing date and neither party
has used the Challenge Book the BOTH parties will be disqualified.

4.
Single competitions will be played until one competitor reaches 21
shots. Finals will include 2 trial ends. Trial ends in all other
rounds will be by mutual agreement.
5. Pairs competitions will be played over 15 ends with trial
ends by mutual agreement up until the final, which will consist of
17 ends plus two trial ends.
6. Substitutes will be allowed only at the Match Committee's
discretion and none will be permitted after the first round.
Substitutes will continue to play in all further rounds.
7. EXTENSIONS will only be considered by the Match Committee
for reasons of bereavement or Club commitment.

Jack
improperly delivered (Law 29)
Should the jack in any end be improperly delivered, or
if it ends its original course in the ditch or outside boundary of
the rink, or less than 23metres in a straight line of play
from the mat line, it shall be returned and the opposing player
shall deliver the jack, ensuring that it is centered, but shall
not play first.
